Lozan, the cat,is an allegory of Man's awfulness and wildness..who turns animal innocence into evil, betrayal and oppression...
Nevertheless, there are many characters in the novel who stand for goodness, for instance,Safouan, the main character or the hero whom many readers thought he resembles Lamine Saidi, the novelist. This hero represents endurance, strength and adherence to the humanitarian values...Safouan loves his homeland, people, literature and philosophy.Indeed,he married Fatima,an author and a thinker like her father,Ahmed Al Mukacher.
Thus, there is an allegorical focus on the value of the thinkers in society who shall be at the head of life, knowledge and every change in their countries...
As for Zouhour,Safouan's mother ,she loves art, beauty and literature though she is born in a pop district ,married traditionally and she has never been to school. This old-aged woman stands for wisdom and emotional strength far from schools and indoctrination...
Furthermore, the setting in The Women's City is meant allegoricallly. In fact, the desert is a symbol of drought and fertility at the same time thanks to its soulful dwellers who turn harshness into fruitfulness.Besides, the pop district stands for identity and depth, for instance, the real streets "El Mur" "Al Wedi" in "Bab Manara" in Arab Antique Tunis.
Added to these,Syria,Saudi Arabia,Turkey,England,Libya,France, Libanan,Algeria...
Beyond that, time is also metaphorical in this novel ,for example, the night is a symbol of no freedom, but the daylight means liberation from early moments of dawn...
The Women's City is an allegorical novel which is rich of diversity and duality in evil and goodness, slavery and liberation, happiness and misery, kindness and wildness...
